Shining Star for January 2012
Sherri PhelpsSherri started working at Lallie Kemp in 2001. She is currently a RN Program Coordinator in the Quality Assurance Department. Sherri’s main responsibility is to enter data into the QI project for Joint Commission & CMS. She is responsible abstracting charts as well. When asked about her greatest accomplishment at LKMC she stated, “For being able to work in nearly every department and learning how each department differs as well as working together.” Here is some little known information about Sherri. She was a cheerleader in high school and is from Mount Hermon. She always wanted to be an attorney but decided against it because there was too much history to learn. She is married, has 2 daughters and 1 nephew. She likes to dance, spend time with family and friends, especially doing water sports. When asked about her reaction to being named a “Shining Star”, she said, “I was shocked, but very glad.” When you see Sherri, please congratulate her on being January’s Shining Star. Mary VuljoinMary became an employee of Lallie Kemp in 2010, but was domiciled here during her employment with our previous contracted pharmacy group “Pharmacare” for nine (9) years. She is currently our “Pharmacy Director”. Mary's primary responsibility is to make sure that we are compliant with medication management and engage clinical staff to reach a common goal. When asked about her greatest accomplishment at LKMC she stated, “Keeping my staff motivated and educated about our purpose here.” When asked what she likes most about her job, she said “The interaction I have with the staff that is essential to my job”. Here is some little known information about Mary. She rides a “Harley”. She put herself through college by being a Spanish interpreter. She was 25 before she learned how to swim. She also wanted to be a calculus professor before deciding to become a Pharmacist. She is married, has 3 children and 4 grandchildren. She likes to listen to all types of music and travel. She is also a volunteer for the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival as well as ARC in Metairie. When asked about her reaction to being named a “Shining Star”, she said, “I was humbled, very, very humbled.” When you see Mary, please congratulate her on being named February's “Shining Star”.

Johnny Mae TateJohnny Mae started working at Lallie Kemp in 2007. She is currently a Custodian in the Housekeeping Department. Johnny’s main responsibility is to maintain the cleanliness of the area she works in; keeping it clean, fresh and smelling good. When asked about what she likes most about her job she stated, “The people I work with and I enjoy meeting new people every day.” She also states that the reason she has been so successful here at LKMC is “Because I am a people person and I love to talk.” In her time off she likes to go out to eat with friends and family and spend time with her mother. She also volunteers some of her time to help a few of the elderly people in her neighborhood. When asked about her reaction to being named a “Shining Star”, she said, “I was shocked and surprised. It’s an honor to be recognized for the work you do. I think the whole Housekeeping department is a shining star, because we all work hard as a team in getting the job done. ” When you see Johnny Mae, please congratulate her on being March’s Shining Star.

Marshunda ThomasMarshunda started working at Lallie Kemp in 2011. She is currently a HR Analyst in the Human Resources Department. Marshunda's main responsibilities consist of processing applications, hiring applicants, posting vacant positions and entering data into the PeopleSoft system. When asked about what she likes most about her job she stated, “EVERYTHING!” She also states that the reason she has been so successful here at LKMC is “Because I am very personable and I believe in good employee/customer service.” In her time off she likes to shop, dance, and attend functions that her son and daughter participate in. She is also active in her church and assists her husband Derek with coaching “bitty” basketball. When asked about her reaction to being named a “Shining
Star”, she said, “I was very surprised.” When you see Marshunda, please

Timothy BrownTim started working at Lallie Kemp in 2009. He is currently a Security Officer in the Security Department. Tim's main responsibilities consist of managing the department and ensuring the security of the hospital. When asked about what he likes most about his job he stated, "Helping the public and the people around the hospital". He also states that the reason he has been so successful here at LKMC is "because I have a great staff." In his time off he likes to garden and read. Here are some interesting facts we didn't know about Tim: He was the chief of police in Greensburg for two (2) years, he lived in Korea for eighteen (18) months and he has been a successful business owner for the past twenty-one (21) years. When asked about his reaction to being named a "Shining Star", he said, "I was very surprised." When you see Tim, please congratulate him on being May's Shining Star.

Ashley SimpsonAshley started working at Lallie Kemp in June of 2009. She is currently an ‘Administrative Coordinator’ (Assembly Analyst) in the Health Information Management Department. Ashley’s main responsibilities consist of assembling inpatient records and outpatient surgeries. She analyzes patient records to ensure that the physicians have completed all of their charting. When asked about what she likes most about her job she stated, “The Staff!” She also states that the reason she has been so successful here at LKMC is “the cooperation of our Medical Staff, without their help I wouldn’t be able to accomplish my job.” In her time off she likes to do yard work and garden. She is also active in her son’s Boy Scout Troop. When asked about her reaction to being named a “Shining Star”, she said, “I was completely shocked”. Darren DupuyDarren started working at Lallie Kemp in June of 2010. He is currently a "Carpenter Master" in the Maintenance Department. Darren's main responsibilities consist of building and maintaining different areas of the hospital. When asked what he likes most about his job he stated, “The guys I work with.” He also said that the reason he has been so successful here at LKMC is “Because of the positive feedback I receive from our work, that it makes me want to continue doing a great job.” In his time off he likes to go fishing and hunting. He lives in Covington and has 2 sons. When asked about his reaction to being named a “Shining Star”, he said, “It was unbelievable.” When you see Darren please congratulate him on being July'sShining Star.

Melanie ZaffutoMelanie started working at Lallie Kemp in September of 2011. She is currently an Administrative Coordinator 4 in the Medical Staff Department. Melanie's main responsibilities consist of making sure our doctor's are properly licensed and verifying the competencies for performance of duties. She is also responsible for the successful rotation of residents thru the doors and hallways swiftly, while assisting our Medical Director in the daily operations of her office. When asked what she likes most about her job she stated, “Meeting new people on a daily basis.” In her time off she likes reading and social networking. Some unknown facts about Melanie are: she was a missionary, she is the youngest of five (5) children, she is a grandmother of two (2), she's scared of heights and she can speak four (4) languages! When asked about her reaction to being named a “Shining Star”, she said, “I was stunned!” When you see Melanie please congratulate her on being Augusts' “Shining Star”!!

Allen "Ray" SingletaryRay started working at Lallie Kemp in July of 2009. He is currently a ‘Registered Nurse in the Medicine Unit. Ray’s main responsibility is providing exceptional direct patient care. He also “frequently assumes the role of ‘charge nurse’ and consistently works with the Emergency and ICU departments”. When asked what he likes most about his job Ray stated, “Taking care of our patients and the teamwork that we all share in accomplishing that.” He credits his co-workers to his being so successful at LKMC. He believes his greatest accomplishment at LKMC is being entrusted to be a charge nurse on the Medicine Unit and receiving the “Shining Star” award. In his time off he likes to spend time with his friends and family. Some unknown facts about Ray are: he plays guitar and likes to travel. When asked about his reaction to being named a “Shining Star”, he said, “I was surprised and appreciative!” When you see Ray, please congratulate him on being September’s “Shining Star”!!

James Laten James started working at Lallie Kemp in September of 2005. He is currently a ‘Custodian’ in our Housekeeping Department. James’ main responsibilities consist of emptying trash cans and making sure the floors are clean, mopped and buffed in his designated areas. When asked what he likes most about his job he stated, “Keeping my work area neat and clean.” He credits knowing his job and being able to work and get along with his co-workers toward being so successful at LKMC. When asked why he believes he accomplishes so much at LKMC, he replied: ‘Because I believe in my work and my service and love what I do.’ In his time off he likes to hunt, fish and spend time with his daughter, son and grandchildren. He also enjoys helping the elderly neighbors in his neighborhood as well as remaining involved with his church. When asked about his reaction to being named “Shining Star”, he said, “I was surprised!” When you see James please congratulate him on being October’s “Shining Star”!!

Sarah Thiel Sarah started working at Lallie Kemp in October of 2001. She is currently an ‘Accountant’ in our Accounting Department. Sarah’s main responsibilities consist of writing and preparing contracts for our professional services and journal entries. When asked what she likes most about her job she stated, “The people.” She credits having a good support system both at home and at work as being so successful at LKMC. When asked why she believes she accomplishes so much at LKMC, she replied: ‘Writing and preparing contracts keeps our professional staff serving our patients.’ In her time off she likes to garden and read. She also enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and son. She is active in her church and the board at her son’s school. When asked about her reaction to being named “Shining Star”, she said, “I was surprised and honored!” When you see Sarah please congratulate her on being November’s “Shining Star”!!

Stacy Lavigne Stacy started working at Lallie Kemp in July of 2002. She is currently an ‘Administrative Assistant 3’ in our Facility Plant Department. Stacy’s main responsibilities consist of writing and preparing policies and procedures for Maintenance as well as daily tasks for Housekeeping, Bio-Med, Maintenance and Security. When asked what she likes most about her job she stated, “The friends and relationships I’ve made here.” She credits taking pride in her work and completing tasks in a timely manner as being so successful at LKMC. When asked why she believes she accomplishes so much at LKMC, she replied: ‘Writing and preparing contracts keeps our professional staff serving our patients.’ In her time off she “Enjoys crafts but is not very crafty yet, but Pintrest has been helping her!” She is active in her church and the board at her son’s school. She has been married for 12 years and has 1 daughter and 1 son. Some little known facts about Stacy are that she has a “weenie” dog named Leo, she recently went on her very 1st trip to Disneyworld and she does NOT like seafood. When asked about her reaction to being named “Shining Star”, she said, “I was shocked!” When you see Stacy please congratulate her on being December’s “Shining Star”!!
