2010 Louisiana Hospital Capstone Quality Award, presented by eQHealth Solutions, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Louisiana

Baton Rouge LSU Bogalusa Medical Center (BMC), University Medical Center (UMC) and Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center (LJCMC) each received the 2010 Louisiana Hospital Capstone Quality Award, presented by eQHealth Solutions, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Louisiana.

Only 38 hospitals in Louisiana received this award, which recognizes hospitals for achieving certain improvements in the quality of their patients' healthcare.

"We implement quality improvement initiatives because they allow us to deliver to our patients the best practices in healthcare," said Kurt Scott, LSU BMC CEO. "We take advantage of every opportunity to ensure our patients benefit from the latest advances in medicine. This award recognizes our ongoing efforts to serve our patients as best as we can."

Aligned with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services inpatient quality initiatives, the Louisiana Hospital Capstone Quality Awards recognize hospital achievement in appropriate care for patients with diagnoses of acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, community acquired pneumonia and improvements in care related to measures outlined in the Surgical Care Improvement Project.

"The award is another indication of the quality healthcare we provide at Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center," said Rhonda Green, LJCMC CEO. "Day in and day out, our staff adheres to the highest standards for the benefit of our patients. We continually strive to improve our patient healthcare according to nationally recognized, evidence-based standards."

CMS has designated the clinical measure sets for the awards as national healthcare priorities. Quality improvement teams at LSU hospitals employ evidence-based practices to improve care for their patients.

"We use proven, evidence-based practices to ensure that our patients receive consistent, quality healthcare in all circumstances," said Larry Dorsey, UMC hospital administrator. "The award is recognition of our dedication to our patients and to our pursuit in improving our healthcare services."

Previously titled the Louisiana Hospital Quality Awards, the Louisiana Hospital Capstone Quality Awards were announced at the 2011 Louisiana Medicare Quality Summit, hosted by eQhealth Solutions, in Baton Rouge.
